It's a Mom Thing Reviews & More!: Why Your April Fools Joke Isn't a Joke At All

Why Your April Fools Joke Isn't a Joke At All

Each year on April Fools' Day I see many status' on Facebook from women "announcing pregnancy." Every time that I see these status updates I can't help but to feel disappointed that people would think that pregnancy is a joke. Pregnancy isn't a joke, getting pregnant isn't a joke, saying "I'm just kidding" after announcing pregnancy isn't funny.

Some statistics to think about:
15-20% of pregnancies result in miscarriage.
More than 85,000 women in the US undergo IVF each year.
6.1 million women in the US suffer from infertility.

Think about those statistics for a minute. Think about those women for a minute.

I can tell you firsthand from someone who suffers from conditions that can cause infertility that pregnancy is not a joke. Myself and many others do not find it is funny when you announce pregnancy as a joke while there are thousands of women in the US would do anything to see a positive pregnancy test and to announce their pregnancy. Women who have suffered pregnancy loss do not think that your "pregnancy announcement" is funny.

Before you post that you are pregnant on April Fools' Day take time to think again about those statistics, think again about those women. Think about how you would feel if you were in their shoes. Trust me when I say, "Your April Fools' Joke isn't a joke at all."

  1. I have to admit that I've actually done this and to be honest all the others who do it don't really think about what you posted. I know I didn't at the time. I do admit though, there are more tasteful jokes that can be played.
